One of my favorite things to do over the summer is to head to the drive-in.

The Midway Drive-In, about an hour or so from Rockford, is one of the best in the area.

So when I saw the McHenry Drive-In announced plans to open on May 1, I wanted to check in on the Midway.

Nothing.

There was no word from them on their website, Facebook, or Twitter.

That was until just a few days ago.

Midway Drive-In:

We will be opening for the 2020 season when the State of Illinois and our local officials allow us to and when the time is right. We will post here once we have an exact opening date. So that you may comfortably enjoy movies at the Midway, we are working on implementing new policies and procedures to increase your peace of mind. 2020 is our 70th anniversary! We will be celebrating with a Summer Classics film series in addition to first run movies. Your support during this time means a lot to us - Thank You!

Everyone please stay safe and healthy, and we are looking forward to seeing you soon!

Unfortunately for us entertainment starved folks we're going to have to wait a while.

If Midway closely follows McHenry's plans they could potentially open.

On the other hand, it's understandable to open when new movies start hitting theaters again, but they could share flicks from 10 years ago, and people would show up.

The Midway Drive-In is located at 91 Palmyra Road in Sterling.
