3 of the Most Unusual Homes That Were Once For Sale in Wisconsin
A lot of people are drawn to uniqueness while hunting for their next dream home, but these three houses in Wisconsin might take the unique factor a little too far.
Unusual Homes in Wisconsin
If I could afford to live an old home with unique architecture that I didn't have to put any work into, I would thrown down the money immediately, BUT I can't afford that dream so I live vicariously through Zillow and realtor.com.
I've learned a lot of things while pretend house hunting online, with two of the biggest things being;
- People can be very creative with their home design choices.
- A lot of people do very strange things to houses.
Yes, every person and family has their own style and preferences, but sometimes I think they might forget about the whole resale value thing.
The unique houses in Wisconsin may not have to worry about resale values, but I can't help but wonder; are they just a little too unusual to actually live in?
The Boat House - Milwaukee, WI
This Milwaukee home takes the houseboat living thing to a whole new level. It last sold for $190,000 in 2018 and the listing I found on Old House Dreams said;
Originally built in 1926 as a tourist attraction, it's never seen real water and carries some of our city's best lore. Her features and charm include: oak trim/flooring, fresh galley KIT, BD/BA in the bow; LL rec room/2nd BA in the hull, porthole lights, colorful sea chart wall paper, a light house & smoking lamps.
Don't get me wrong, this house is pretty darn cool inside, but still, it's an actual boat...
Is boat living a bit too confined for you? Here's another unusual option that offers more room...
The Hobbit House - River Falls, WI
This home last sold in October of 2022 for 356,000 and the realtor.com listing says;
Known for its energy efficiency, this outstanding Bermed-Earth-Sheltered home designed by well-known Architect, Mike McGuire, offers 2 beds, 2 baths, 3 wood burning fireplaces, 5 large newer skylights, and 2 newer furnaces controlled by Nest.
I do appreciate the lightness of the interior, but I feel claustrophobic just looking at the pictures, and I'm only 5 foot 2 inches tall.
Let's move on to another unusual Wisconsin home that offers a LOT of room for your family, friends, and then some.
The Castle House - Beaver Dam, WI
The old realtor.com listing says;
Featuring a wood fireplace in the master suite, rain shower guest bathroom, open concept modern home with 17 foot high ceilings. In floor heating in the attached garage & on the main level to the dry bar entertainment area. Private patio off of the office, outdoor entertainment area on the rooftop. The fun doesn't stop there .. secret tunnels & passageways in the lower level taking you to the indoor shop.
This home sits on 25 acres and with 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and plenty of entertainment options, all that it's missing is a moat!
If I were on House Hunters right now, and had just be shown my three options, I would be choosing to buy option number 3, the Castle House. This one has the most room, and I could do wonders with several cans of paint. Which one would you choose?
