There's something mighty special going on in an algebra classroom at Harlem High School and I'm so grateful for getting to be a part of honoring her.

That headline above is pretty accurate. That part about 'supernatural kind of love'. This isn't a story about ghosts. There is most assuredly a spirit alive in this story about our new Teacher Of The Week, Diane Kordich, but it's not a ghost.

I choose to believe it's an angel that exists in the center of this story. An angel that sent her 'light' through one of Diane Kordich's algebra students.

An angel that wanted to make sure we all paused to honor her mother.

That angel is Diane's daughter, Amanda, whose life was tragically taken in 2008.

Today, we honor Diane Kordich, she is 97ZOK's new Teacher Of The Week. Diane was nominated by one of her students at Harlem High School, Nico Barrett. Nico writes,

"This teacher has gone through so much. She lost her daughter in 2008 due to a drunk driver and ever since then she’s devoted to helping students get to where they need to. She treats every single one of her students as if they were her own children. She is the mother I never had. Every single one of her students could tell you that she does everything in her power to get a passing grade. They can also say that she makes coming to school worth it. This is my second year having her and I wouldn’t want a different math teacher. Even if she doesn’t win she’s a winner in my heart and she is just the best person and no one is more deserving than her."

This is Nico with Mrs. Kordich.

'Supernatural'

Adjective

Definition: Attributed to some force beyond scientific understanding or the laws of nature.

Below, is my conversation with the teacher whose love has some of that supernatural power.

Congratulations Mrs. Kordich from Harlem High School

As a 97ZOK Teacher Of The Week, Mrs. Lee was surprised with a beautiful floral arrangement from Broadway Florist and a delicious cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes.
