Illinois Man Breaks Into Missouri Circle K for Jerky and Sweet Tea

An Illinois dude somehow ended up in Missouri and is now facing several charges after police say he kicked in the front door of a Circle K store in St. Charles at 2 a.m. and helped himself to a bag of jerky and sweet tea. That's it.

Police Find Suspect Still Inside the Store

Court records show police arrived to find the glass door smashed and the suspect, 33-year-old Kohl Bertels, still inside the store. Bertels was asked what had happened, and admitted he broke into the place because "the voices in my head told me to kick the door open since it was locked" and that he "just wanted to use the bathroom."

Suspect Claims “AI Speaker in My Neck”

That's not all, though, as the situation between Bertels and the police got a bit stranger as he later told the cops that there was an "AI speaker in my neck" but didn't offer much explanation why that would require him to break into a Circle K and eat jerky and drink sweet tea.

Investigators Say He Walked 40 Miles Before the Break-In

Investigators also say that Bertels walked from his home, which is 40 miles away, which is quite the haul considering he only grabbed a few things. You would have thought he'd really load up on the snacks. Anyway, Bertel was charged with a myriad of crimes, including burglary, property damage, and stealing. He is currently being held on a $2500 cash bond.
