Rockford travelers will want to avoid the Jefferson Street Bridge on Thursday as it will closed for repairs .

The Rock River Times is reporting that the bridge undergo repairs for it's columns and beam structures.

Motorists and pedestrians needing to cross the river will be detoured using the Whitman Street bridge

The approval of the 1 % sales tax extension by Rockford voters in Tuesday's primary election will allow for further repairs to be done to the bridge.

It is estimated that the sales tax will continue to generate over $120 million. That money is specifically designated road repairs. Money can also be used for infrastructure repair.
