Jake Owen has released a music video for his new single "American Country Love Song." The clip begins with Owen buying his now-famous "Love Bus" -- a seafoam green 1966 Volkswagon Microbus -- and taking the ultimate road trip from Nashville, Tenn., to Key West, Fla.

"The song is about feeling young and free," Owen tells People. "I've done videos before where there's a bunch of people standing around putting makeup on me, and I don't think of that as being free. I wanted the all-American road trip."

He adds, "I thought why don't I just get in a van with the director and take some good friends and hit the road and see what happens?"

Owen is carefree, happy and having fun throughout his new video -- a good sight to see following his divorce last summer.

"I've gone through a lot in the last couple years," says the 34-year-old. "And it was nice to just literally drive 55 miles an hour in the righthand lane, which was as fast as we could go, not be in a hurry, and along the way see what happens ... Stop places, play music, eat some good food and talk to people."

Throughout the "American Country Love Song" music video, Owen stops at gas stations (and at one point runs out of gas), grabs late-night pizza, has some fun fan encounters, crashes a football game and more.

And that bus? It wasn't just some music video prop. Owen will be taking the vehicle on tour with him (it fits perfectly in a trailer behind the bus), and it will go to the love of his life in a few years.

"... I told my little girl [Pearl] it's going to be hers when she gets to be 16," he admits.

"American Country Love Song" is from Owen's forthcoming record. It is available for download on iTunes.
