Seems like no matter what the occupation is, there will always be some folks who think they can do it better. A few examples that come to mind are teachers, coaches, referees/umpires, and law enforcement. Politicians and city leaders get a lot of criticism too, but do you (me, us, whoever) really think we can do a better job? I've got to think that running a city is NOT an easy job, and clearly, some do it better than others.

2024's Best and Worst Run Cities in America

What are the best and worst-run cities in America, and how do Indiana cities compare to the rest of the country? WalletHub.com just released a report answering those questions, and would you be surprised to know that one Hoosier town is ranked in the top ten (and it's NOT Indianapolis)?

In Fact, the 8th Best-Run City in America is...

Out of the 148 cities that were compared, FORT WAYNE represents Indiana in the top ten, landing at #8 on the list. How cool is that? The rankings were determined by comparing the country's most populated cities in the following six categories:

  1. Financial Stability
  2. Education
  3. Health
  4. Safety
  5. Economy
  6. Infrastructure & Pollution.

How Did the Rest of Indiana Rank?

There were two other Indiana cities included in the report - Gary, which ranked at #83, and Indianapolis, which ranked at #93. Not great results, for sure, but not the worst in the country either. There are a few specific metrics, however, where Gary really struggled. Here's what I'm talking about...

  • Gary has the 4th highest unemployment rate in the country.
  • Gary has the lowest median annual household income.
  • Gary has the 2nd highest percentage of the population in poverty.

And in case you're curious, #1 on the list (the best-run city) is Nampa, ID, and #148 (the worst-run city) is San Fransico, CA.

See Inside This Now Abandoned Indiana Brick Factory

This former factory, located in Vermillion County, Indiana, was the last coal-fired brick plant in America. I can honestly say I've never seen anything like it - I guess that's why these pictures caught my eye.
