One Of Illinois’ Biggest Gas Stations To ‘Divest’ 1000 Locations
One of Illinois' two biggest gas stations is closing up 1000 different locations worldwide.
HOW MANY SHELL LOCATIONS IN ILLINOIS?
In case you didn’t know, Shell has over 600 different spots in 309 different Illinois cities.
Shell is the second biggest gas station chain in the Land of Lincoln, with only 17 fewer locations than the top spot, BP.
SHELL TO CLOSE 1000 LOCATIONS
The news broke earlier this week that Shell will close 500 stations in 2024 and another 500 by the end of 2025.
According to Shell’s Energy Transition Strategy report, the company will begin “upgrading” its “retail network with expanded electric vehicle charging and convenience offers in response to changing customer needs.”
It makes sense, too, especially when you consider a report from the Edison Electric Institute and the Institute for Electric Innovation predicting that seven million zero-emission vehicles will be on the road by 2025.
HOW MANY CHARGING PORTS NEEDED BY 2025?
More importantly, the report projects that five million charging ports will be required to support those vehicles, per Utility Dive.
If you have plenty of EVs on the road, you’ll need places to keep them charged.
WHAT SHELL LOCATIONS WILL CLOSE IN ILLINOIS?
Shell has not shared which stations will be closing, but given the number of locations in Illinois, some in the state will shutter.
I’m for the change, which is a positive step in the right direction.
I’ve also considered getting a hybrid vehicle that would need charging, and the lack of charging locations has made me a bit apprehensive.
Do you own an EV or at least a hybrid? What do you like the most about that style of vehicle?
