Over the weekend, a 10-year-old child was thrown from a carnival ride in Illinois.

It happened at the Taste of Antioch festival in Antioch, IL. The ride was the Moby Dick ride, which moves back and forth, then quickly in a circle, as the riders sit in a line side-by-side. It looks like this:

It's a common carnival ride.

According to Chicago station WGN9, it happened on Sunday afternoon. The child thrown from the ride was airlifted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. There's no word yet on their condition.

Elliott Johnson, who was also on the ride, was running into issues making sure his own rider's bar stayed secure.

Elliott Johnson told WGN9:

My bar was coming up over my head, so every time I went up because it was going up and I was almost about to fall out, I would slam down to close it so that way I would not fall out. Then as soon as it started slowing down and it was about maybe rocking on the floor, I was able to push it up and slide out.

Then he went to find help for the injured kid.

Meanwhile, Mayor Scott Gartner closed the rides until a safety review of each ride is done.

Mayor Gartner said:

We are always trying to make sure these are safe fun family events and our thoughts and prayers go out to the child that fell and his family. I have two young daughters myself. It hit close to home and we have to make sure something like this never happens again and the child is ok.

The Illinois Department of Labor and Antioch Fire & Police Departments are investigating.
