When I first read about it, I thought today was National Desert Day. And, to me at least, that holds considerably less appeal than adding one more S and talking about desserts.

Don't get me wrong. Deserts are fascinating, and I've always wanted to see the Sahara. But I'm not sure I'd want to celebrate by eating a plate of sand after dinner. Besides, no restaurant chains or local eateries have announced free sand with the purchase of an entrée.

Fortunately, today, Wednesday, October 14th, is National Dessert Day, and several restaurant chains with Illinois locations are giving us an excuse to indulge our sweet tooth without completely emptying our wallets.

I'm in.

There Might Be A Catch Or Two With Some Offers Today

Keep in mind that some offers require membership in a restaurant's rewards program, and participating locations and other restrictions may apply. Check the details before heading out.

National Dessert Day comes around every October 14th, but there's no law requiring us to limit dessert to a single day. Yet. So go ahead and celebrate.

And if anybody announces National Desert Day, I'll let you know. My personal favorites are:

  1. Sahara
  2. Sonoran
  3. Gobi
