A 20-year-old Chicago man is under arrest and has been charged with first-degree murder in the expressway shooting on I-57 in Illinois that claimed the life of a 2-year-old child.

The Public Information Office of the Illinois State Police announced today that they arrested and charged 20-year-old Sean Richardson of Chicago, Illinois in the shooting death of a 2-year-old child. He's been charged with 3 counts of first-degree murder along with 3 counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection with the incident that happened on I-57 near 116th Street.

The shooting occurred on February 19, 2023, at approximately 10:27 pm. By the time the Illinois State Police had arrived, they found 2 males deceased in the backseat of a vehicle from gunshot wounds. The driver and 3 kids were transported to a local hospital where the 2-year-old was later declared deceased.

Sean Richardson, 20, of Chicago was reportedly arrested on an unrelated charge by the Chicago Police Department when the investigation led to him being charged with those murders.

The Illinois State Police emphasize "the charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
