The Public Information Office of the Illinois State Police just released details of what happened at approximately 3:24am on the morning of August 16, 2025. An officer from the Illinois State Police carried out a motor carrier safety inspection on a truck tractor on I-57 northbound near milepost 302 in Chebanse, Kankakee County. During that search, he found 15 kilo bundles of cocaine which equals approximately 40 pounds of the narcotic.
The Illinois State Police in cooperation with the Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group then arrested 63-year-old Dwayne B. Cook of Spring, Texas. He has been charged with these crimes:
- Controlled Substance Trafficking (Class X Felony)
- Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Class X Felony)
The press release says he's being held in the Jerome Cobs Detention Center before his first appearance in court. The Illinois State Police emphasize that all are innocent until proven guilty of a crime. There are no additional details or court dates that have been shared at this time. A lawyer website estimates that a penalty of between 12 and 60 years is possible for the conviction of two class X felonies in Illinois.
