If you want to shower the woman in your life with romance, never, and I repeat never, buy her any of these 5 things...unless she specifically asks for them.

Things Women Really Want

When it comes to holidays like Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Birthdays, and even Christmas, I firmly believe the majority of women appreciate you doing something nice and spending quality time with them the most. You don't need to prove your love by spending a ton on a gift. Going out of your way to make her feel relaxed, happy, and loved is truly what women want. (Unless she is a shallow, money hungry you-know-what).

The rule of thumb for Valentine's gifts is; if you're buying something just because you need to have a present and you put no real thought behind it, you just failed at Valentine's Day.

Things Women DON'T Want for Valentine's Day

The following are examples of things NOT to get a woman for Valentine's Day:

  • Anything from an adult novelty store, especially if it's a newer relationship. If you've been together for a long time and know for SURE this is something she would like then getting her some adult toys or lingerie is acceptable.
  • Anything that is kept or used in a kitchen. NO woman wants anything on the day of love that translates to "cook with this" or "clean with this". Toasters, blenders, and cooking books do not induce romance.
  • A gym membership. Nothing says "I love you, BUT..." like gifting someone a gym membership on Valentine's Day.
  • Old Christmas Chocolates. I know I said you don't have to spend a lot to show your love, BUT, getting clearance candy is not a good look.
  • Self-help or relationship books. Women struggle enough with their identity, they don't need a blaring reminder that they may be a hot mess.

One last note, if you want to give a women roses on Valentine's Day, but don't want to pay the upcharge for red roses, choose a different color than yellow. An old boyfriend the I has been dating for several year once gave me yellow roses on Valentine's Day. Yes, I was thankful he got me flowers, but yellow roses typically symbolize friendship, (and it's not my favorite color), so I was less than enthused by the possible sentiment behind them.

For those that truly need some great Valentine's Day gift ideas, just remember spending quality time with those you love is key. Here are some great places where you can do exactly that...
