As someone who loves animals, people like this just make me sick. On Monday, an Illinois woman was found guilty of assisting in the stabbing of her family cat. She will go to jail.

This is one of those stories that just makes you ask, "what was she thinking"?

In June of 2015, Elmhurst resident Kelly Palermo, 51 held down her family cat, Zeppelin, while her daughter, Samantha Palermo, 22, stabbed it several times.

The elder Palermo, apparently became angry with the family cat for unknown reasons.

It gets worse, according to The DuPage County State's Attorney, in a statement released today:

It is further alleged that following the stabbing, Kelly Palermo’s 14 year-old son got the cat away from his mother and called 911. It is further alleged that Kelly Palermo took the cat back from her son and held the cat down while Samantha again stabbed it several times eventually killing it. Both mother and daughter were taken into custody that evening at Kelly Palermo’s home without incident.

Kelly Palermo will:

  • Spend 90 days in the DuPage County Jail
  • Will be banned for life from owning, or living with someone who owns, a companion animal
  • Ordered to pay a $5,000 fine, plus court costs

Photos of the women who committed this crime can be seen HERE.

As far as the woman who actually stabbed the cat, Samantha Palermo, her case will be heard in court on November 17. She faces one felony count of aggravated animal cruelty.
