A study from WalletHub ranked some of America's small towns using "45 factors of livability" from housing costs to the number of restaurants in the area.

The approximately 1,300 U.S. cities included in the ranking have populations between 25,000 and 100,000 residents.

Wisconsin Has Small Towns That Rank Best in U.S.

According to the study from WalletHub, the "99th percentile represents the top 1 percent of small cities in America."

There were only 19 cities in the United States that had a score high enough to be in the top one percent, and two of those towns are located in Wisconsin.

Brookfield, Wisconsin (#10 Best Small Town in U.S.)

WalletHub ranked four Midwestern cities in their Top 10 Best Small Towns. Brookfield, WI was #10, the other three were in Indiana including the #1 Best Small Town in the U.S: Carmel, Indiana.

Appleton, Wisconsin (#16 Best Small Town in U.S.)

Appleton's downtown includes "60+ distinctive shops. casual, fine dining, and ethnic restaurants, nearly 30 pubs, clubs, and live music hot spots, a leading performing arts center and world-class visual arts gallery, family-friendly activities and attractions, and a variety of coffee shops and gathering places."

Illinois Has 3 of America's Worst Small Towns

You have to head way down state close to Missouri to find the one city in Illinois that ranks in the LOWEST 1 percent of small towns in America.

East St. Louis, Illinois ranked 20th from the Bottom and had some of the worst scores for Economic Health and Safety.

Kankakee, Illinois had a total score that put their town at the BOTTOM two percent of U.S. small cities with poor scores for Economic Health and Safety.

Danville, Illinois' poor scores in Safety and Economic Health pushed in toward the bottom 5 percent of U.S. small towns.
