These Two Words Illinois And Wisconsin Have The Most Trouble Spelling Correctly
Spelling words correctly has been a struggle for humans since writing became a thing. The debate could be whether or not people do not know how to spell or they're just lazy. In a world with autocorrect and spell check you would think there would be fewer spelling errors in general.
Look, I'm not the grammar police. I'm sure if you were to read a chunk of my articles you're bound to find an error or seven. For me it's not a matter of not knowing how to correctly spell a word, it's being in too much of a rush. You could also factor in interruptions while I'm writing. We all make mistakes.
While I'm not the authority on grammar, I do tend to judge based on spelling and word usage errors. This, of course, depends on the setting for which words are being used. If it's a professionally published article/outlet and the errors are something like this...
... I'm absolutely questioning credibility. The same can be said about emails in the workplace. By now we all have ways to spellcheck, especially when using something like Grammarly.
Misspelled Words Are The U.S.A.
Google Trends released a map that reveals the most misspelled words in America based on 2022. The data was easy to come up with. All they did was look at what word followed "how do you spell..." the most in each state. I was surprised to learn North Dakota struggles with "sorry" and Texas has a conundrum with spelling "normal" correctly.
Wisconsin Must Win All The Time
Maybe I'm not paying enough attention to all the victories for Wisconsin teams. The number one word following "how do you spell..." was a bit of a surprise. I'm hoping they will be spelling this word more and more throughout the NFL season.
Illinois Milestones Exist, Right?
Folks residing in the Land Of Lincoln have a more challenging word they've often to search for in order to spell correctly. My guess is the e-r-y versus a-r-y sound at the end of it.
