Crisis Response 24/7 Therapy Dog Hotline Launched in Illinois
When you're dealing with a difficult moment in life, having a wet nose nearby can take a lot of the anxiety and stress away.
Illinois is now offering communities a way to request help from therapy dogs during a tragic situation.
Illinois Creates Single Point of Contact for Therapy Dog Teams
A dedicated 24/7 callout line and email address are now available to request the state's Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Crisis Response Therapy Canine Certification Program, which is believed to be the only state-certified public safety therapy canine program in the nation.
This will give schools, first responders, local governments, businesses, community organizations, and residents a single point of contact when support is needed from the therapy dog teams.
Therapy Dogs Can Respond to Illinois Traumas and Critical Incidents
Certified teams can be requested following critical incidents, traumatic events, and other situations where a trained therapy canine may provide comfort and connection.
That includes supporting schools after traumatic events, helping communities during healing events, participating in public safety outreach, and assisting with wellness initiatives for first responders, students, and residents in need.
How to Request an Illinois Therapy Canine Team
Requests for therapy dog teams will prioritize critical incidents, while other community events may be accommodated based on team availability.
Communities can reach the program around the clock at 773-67-4DOGS (3647), then choose Option 9. Or you can email: CITIllinoisTherapyK9@Illinois.gov.
