If you thought your Memorial Day weekend got a little out of hand, wait until you hear what one Illinois tourist allegedly did in Key West, Florida.

Memorial Day Weekend Shenanigans

I don't know how you feel, but for me, Memorial Day weekend is about letting loose and preparing for all the summer fun ahead.

It's the weekend when we open our pool, fire up the grill, and I crack my first Summer Shandy of the season.

It's also the weekend when a lot of people hit the road to have some fun in the sun... but hopefully not the kind of fun this Illinois man had in Key West over Memorial Day.

Illinois Man Gets Drunk and Steals Police Car in Florida

I'm sure you heard the words 'Florida man' followed by a ridiculous story before. Well, here comes another one... but this time it's about an Illinois man pulling off his best 'Florida man' act.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, 38-year-old John Mack from La Grange, Illinois turned a holiday weekend poolside drinking session into a real-life episode of “Grand Theft Auto: Florida Edition” after he allegedly stole a Key West police cruiser on Saturday, May 23.

Wait... it gets better.

According to Local10.com;

John Mack, 38, of La Grange, Illinois, had been drinking at Dante’s Key West Pool Bar & Restaurant, located at 955 Caroline St., and took the patrol car from an officer working an off-duty detail there.

Police said surveillance video from just before 6:20 p.m. showed Mack “walking out of the pool bar with two friends and standing a couple of feet away from the patrol vehicle,” then opening the door and getting inside. Authorities said he put the car in drive, almost hitting two of the other men.

To make the situation even more ridiculous, Mack decided to do some donuts in the parking lot after stealing the cruiser, and then drove it to another bar where he was eventually caught.

Police say Mack admitted to drinking between three and six Corona beers, but unsurprisingly failed a field sobriety test, refused a breathalyzer, and even resisted arrest. He also didn’t even have a valid driver’s license, just an Illinois ID card.

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Mack now faces a long list of charges including DUI, burglary, grand theft, reckless driving, stealing law enforcement equipment, refusing DUI testing, and resisting arrest without violence.
