Health Care Enrollment for Illinois Residents Has Been Extended
Illinois is giving residents more time and free support to secure affordable health care coverage through the state's marketplace.
Illinois Expands Enrollment Window Amid Record Demand
Get Covered Illinois has announced a 16-day extension for residents to enroll in health insurance coverage through the state's official marketplace, pushing the deadline back to January 31.
The move comes as Illinois reports record enrollment activity, driven largely by residents finding more affordable options by comparing plans available under the Affordable Care Act.

According to the press release, state officials are saying the extension reflects Illinois' growing authority and capacity as a state-based marketplace, allowing it to respond quickly to consumer demand and gaps in coverage. Coverage selected by January 31 will begin February 1, 2026.
State Investment Boosts Access to Free Enrollment Help
Illinois has invested nearly $7 million in navigator grants to ensure residents have access to free, in-person and virtual enrollment assistance. More than 140 certified navigators and around 9,000 licensed brokers are available across the state to help residents apply, compare plans, and enroll in coverage.
Get Covered Illinois leadership emphasized that brokers and navigators play a critical role, particularly for first-time enrollees and those re-evaluating plans with the current skyrocketing health care costs.
These services are offered at no cost and are available in multiple languages, according to the press release.
What Residents Need to Know Before the Deadline
Illinois residents who are looking for healthcare coverage are encouraged to use the extension to review their insurance options or connect with a certified broker or navigator through the Get Covered Illinois online directory.

The Customer Assistance Center is also offering extended hours through January 31, where residents can apply and enroll by calling 1-866-311-1119 (TTY: 711).
Get Covered Illinois operates under the Illinois Department of Insurance and serves as the state's official health insurance marketplace.
