Illinois has approved more than $2 million in new grant funding to help underserved entrepreneurs and small businesses across Illinois.

State Launches Second Round of Business Support Funding

Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced that $2.5 million in new funding is now available through the second round of the Economic Empowerment Centers (EEC) Grant Program.

The EEC is a statewide effort aimed at helping underserved entrepreneurs and communities overcome long-standing economic barriers.

The grant funding will be distributed through a competitive Notice of Funding Opportunity process, with eligible applicants able to seek awards ranging from $250,000 to $500,000.

Program Targets Historically Marginalized Communities

The EEC initiative focuses on supporting minorities, women, veterans, individuals with disabilities, youth entrepreneurs, and dislocated workers.

As Governor, I’m committed to building a thriving business community that values inclusivity and uplifts entrepreneurs from all backgrounds. -Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker

According to state officials, the first round of funding awarded $2.5 million to 10 organizations that collectively helped launch 100 businesses, create more than 160 jobs, and advise over 2,000 entrepreneurs across Illinois.

Local Organizations See Long-Term Impact

Chicago-based Sunshine Enterprises was among the previous grant recipients. Executive Director B.J. Stewart said the funding helped expand entrepreneurial programming throughout Chicagoland while improving partnerships across Illinois' business support network.

The state Economic Empowerment Centers provide services including business planning, financial counseling, management analysis, market research assistance, and cohort-based training programs.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until available funding is exhausted. DCEO will also host a technical assistance webinar for applicants on May 13, 2026.
