Illinois 1099-G Tax Forms Released: What Unemployment Claimants Must Know Before Filing
Illinois unemployment recipients can now download or receive their 1099-G tax forms through the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) to properly file 2025 taxes.
Forms Now Available Online and by Mail
According to the iDES press release, forms are being issued to residents who collected unemployment insurance (UI) benefits in 2025, a required step for completing both state and federal tax returns.

The form, officially titled "Form 1099-G, Certain Government Payments," reports the total amount of benefits paid and must be included when filing taxes.
Claimants who opted for electronic delivery have already received email notifications directing them to download the form through their IDES online accounts. Those who did not select paperless delivery can expect a hard copy mailed to their address on file.
Multiple Ways to Access Your 1099-G
Beyond email or mail delivery, IDES states that all claimants can obtain their 1099-G forms by logging into their accounts or calling Tele-Serve at 312-338-4337. The system also stores up to seven years of past forms. Access requires login identity verification, part of Illinois' broader effort to strengthen online security and reduce fraud.

If the form cannont be accessed digitally or hasn't arrived by mail, residents can schedule an in-person pickup appointment at local IDES offices. Pickup windows are limited to weekday mornings and late afternoons. Assistance is available through the scheduling hotline at 217-558-0401.
Why It Matters for Illinois Taxpayers
Failing to report unemployment benefits can result in delayed refunds or trigger notices to the IRS. IDES encourages claimants to verify their information early to avoid filing complications.
Questions about the form can be directed to IDES at 800-244-5631, while tax-specific issues should go to the IRS at 800-829-1040.
