This is no joke. Authorities have issued a stern warning for shoppers on Black Friday.

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is advising drivers to be smart with the parking choices, specifically in "Aurora, Bloomington, Carbondale, Chicago, Fairview Heights, Oak Brook, Orland Park, Peoria, Rockford, Schaumburg, and Springfield." According to WIFR.com. The SOS's office has partnered with local police to see that handicap parking is being used by those who need it and not people looking for a good spot.

You might think his quote, "Parking illegally in a space reserved for people with disabilities means a possible driver's license suspension and a hefty fine, money which could otherwise be used on gifts." is a bit strong, but it's nothing compared to the actual penalties for being busted for illegal parking in said handicap spots - between $250-$350, depending on local laws. If you're caught fraudulently using a handicap placard you could be charged up to $600 and a six-month driver's license suspension.
