We're nearly through another rough Rockford winter, and city roads are showing the after effects.

By the time spring actually "springs" the streets in Screw City look a little worse for wear. The mixture of salt and ice have created craters that are nearly unavoidable.

As much as you try there are sometimes you're going to end up in of those massive potholes and the next thing you know, you're on the hook for the repairs.

While you can kick and scream and curse the city of Rockford up and down while sitting in the waiting room for your new tire to get installed, you should know you can make a claim to get your money back.

On the City of Rockford website, there's a phone number that you can call to get the claim going: 1.800.476.2669.

It looks like it could take a few weeks (3 to 4 per the City of Rockford) to process the claim.

After the claim has been made, a representative will call you regarding the matter. However, when "an adjustor...contacts you by phone, please call them back promptly.  If you ignore their call, the claim will be denied." Long story short, when the adjustor calls, answer the phone.

There is no other way to make a claim for pothole damage in Rockford.

If pothole damage occurs on an Illinois highway in Winnebago, Ogle, Boone, Lee, or Stephenson County call 815.284.2271.
