Recently, I've come across many recipes that instructs to put in a pinch or dash of spices and other ingredients.

Seriously, how much is a pinch or dash?Is a pinch really how much you can grab between you thumb and forefinger?

Is a dash just a simple shake in the bowl?

We know that not using the right amount of ingredients can seriously ruin your recipe.

I looked it up and found that Accuracy Project has the exact measurements. Heck you can even download the chart.

SMIDGEN - A smidgen holds 1/2 pinch or 1/32 teaspoon. 2 smidgens = 1 pinch

PINCH - A pinch holds 1/2 dash or 1/16 teaspoon. 2 pinches = 1 dash

DASH - A dash holds 1/8 teaspoon. 8 dashes = 1 teaspoon

Well then, now we know the next time we come across measurements asking for a pinch, dash or smidgen we can follow those rules.
