Hometown Hero: Riley O’Hern, 18, US Navy

This week's Hometown Hero is Riley O'Hern, who recently joined the US Navy. His mother's explanation of why Riley deserves this honor will undoubtedly bring a tear to your eye.

My hero is my son, Riley. He has been serving our country in the US Navy since earlier this year in January 2019. He signed at only 17 years old and left shortly after turning 18. Before leaving he helped me so much. I am a cancer patient and he took amazing care of me. He hooked me up to my IV fluids every day, flushed my lines, helped me with my medications, and made sure I was well taken care of. He is the most amazing young man and I’m so incredibly proud that I raised my hero. I believe that he should be selected as the hometown hero for many reasons. He is kind, loving, brave, he has integrity and he would do anything for anyone.
