Join The Cause: Friends Of The Poor Walk In Rockford This September
The Rockford community will unite to support those in need at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's ‘Friends of the Poor Walk’.
According to a press release, this significant event aims to raise awareness about poverty and generate crucial funds to aid residents facing economic hardships.
On Saturday, September 21, the day will kick off with an outdoor Celebration of the Mass at 9:00 AM at the Y Log Lodge, located at 200 Y Boulevard in Rockford. Following the Mass, participants can register starting at 10:00 AM, with the walk commencing at 10:30 AM along the scenic Rock River Recreational Path.
The Rockford Area Saint Vincent de Paul Conferences sponsor the local walk; refreshments will be available for all attendees. All proceeds and donations from the walk will directly benefit residents of Winnebago County.

According to the press release, there are no administrative fees for the event, ensuring that every dollar goes straight to those in need.
The Rockford Saint Vincent de Paul conferences have provided significant support over the past year, including home visits, emergency assistance, and disaster relief. In 2023 alone, they served 2,740 individuals and distributed $300,652 in direct aid.
Laura Ortiz, President of the St. Vincent de Paul Rockford Council, emphasized the importance of the event. “Many of our neighbors struggle to make ends meet, and supporting our Friends of the Poor Walk is a meaningful way to help them.”
Ortiz encouraged community members to either participate in the walk or sponsor a walker to support the cause.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a global nonprofit organization, has made substantial impacts worldwide. With over 800,000 members across 155 countries, SVdP is dedicated to serving those in need through personal service and substantial aid.
Last year alone, SVdP USA provided over $1.6 billion in aid and assisted more than 4.2 million people, demonstrating their commitment to alleviating poverty across the globe.
