Lockwood Park’s Opening Day in Rockford Promises Free Fun for the Whole Family

Mark your calendars for a day of farm fun your whole family will enjoy at Lockwood Park's "Saturdays On the Farm" kicking off soon in Rockford, Illinois.

Now that it is finally starting to warm up outside, what are your kids doing? Are they playing outside, or are they playing video games inside?

If you're looking for an excuse to get your kids outdoors and have some fun, Lockwood Park in Rockford is always a great place to go...especially if your kids love animals like mine do!

'Saturdays On The Farm' at Lockwood Park

For the last couple of years Lockwood Park has hosted "Saturdays On the Farm" throughout the spring and summer, and opening day for the 2025 season is coming up on May 3!

If you're unfamiliar with what Saturdays On the Farm are all about, here are some of the free activities you can do there:

• Get up close with animals at Sarver Children's Farm Barn and a petting zoo.
• See oxen and watch them perform basic commands.
• Meet a baby calf.
• Play at a massive playground.
• Enjoy a family picnic.

If you're craving even more farm fun, Saturdays On The Farm also features these paid activities.

• Pony experience sessions. (with a discounted fee!)
• Horseback trail rides
• Wagon rides (with a discounted fee)

Since Lockwood Park's Opening Day is on May 3, which also happens to be the day of the Kentucky Derby, all visitors are encouraged to wear a fancy hat and check out their special pony races where you get to work with a team to decorate and cheer on one of the park's ponies in a race!
