Former Cubs Star Kris Bryant Spotted in Chicago Yesterday
Ugh, writing that headline killed me. Referring to one of my favorite players of this generation of Chicago Cubs as a "former Cubs star" is just the worst.
However, that's just the reality. The reality is, Kris Bryant is gone but his legacy, however short, remains in Chicago.
Bryant was shipped out of town to San Francisco at the end of July in case you weren't aware and while he has helped the Giants push toward a divisional title on the West Coast of the US, he was in Illinois yesterday.
Bryant was already in Chicago today...that included a visit to the 2016 mural at HVAC, down the block from Wrigley. The mural has since been updated by Red Bull, one of Bryant’s long-time partners, reflecting that the mural is now more of a thank-you-tribute situation than an ongoing-current-celebration type thing. Fans can visit the mural all weekend to leave their own thanks for Bryant.
There's more to it than just an off-day stop in Chicago for Bryant though. He came one day early because his new team takes on his old this weekend for a three-game series starting today at Wrigley Field.
This will be the first of the trio of "core Cubs" to make their return to Wrigley Field. If you're a fan of Bryant and the Cubs, I'm sure there are going to be plenty of emotions this weekend. For me, I'm happy to see him at Wrigley again, sad he's wearing another uniform and frustrated the Cubs traded him away.
P.S. Seriously, what's up with the milk guy speeding by Bryant?
