There are certain places in Rockford, Illinois, that don’t just exist on a map. They are what great memories are made of. For many people in this community, Forest Hills Diamonds is one of those places.

Fond Memories of Forest Hills Diamonds

As someone who has lived in the Rockford area my entire life, I can’t even count how many summer nights I spent sitting on the bleachers of Forest Hills Diamonds in Loves Park.

I was never a softball player myself, but many of my friends were, and I have so many fond memories of going to watch them play on a beautiful summer night.

Fast forward a couple decades, and now I’m the mom hauling lawn chairs and water bottles to watch my daughter who has fallen in love with softball. She hadn't played a game at Forest Hills Diamonds yet, but I always assumed that day would come. Sadly now, it never will.

Forest Hills Diamonds Has Closed

On February 19, 2026 Forest Hills Diamonds broke hearts all over the Stateline when they posted an announcement that said:

After careful consideration and many difficult conversations, we regret to announce that Forest Hills Diamonds will be closing effective immediately.

Hearing that the diamonds are closing feels like the end of an era for Rockford softball.

In October 2025 another of Rockford's baseball/softball complexes, Roy Gayle, shared that they needed public support to remain open, and thankfully it worked. Roy Gayle is currently preparing for another season of baseball and softball, and I only wish we could have rallied to save Forest Hills Diamonds too.

I guess we'll just have to feel comfort knowing the memories made at Forest Hills Diamonds won’t disappear just because the gates close. Passion for baseball and softball will still thrive in the 815, but it will just have to find another place to call home.

Forest Hills Diamonds played a big part in building this community’s passion for the game, and I thank them for that.
