A video has surfaced of a gorilla, at Chicago's Brookfield zoo, rescuing a youngster who fell in the ape enclosure back in 1996.

On the heels of the sad story of the gorilla who was shot, to protect a little boy who fell into the gorilla habitat at Cincinnati Zoo over the weekend, comes a forgotten story from 20 years ago.

Back in 1996, Brookfield zoo gorilla "Binti Jua" startled the media and onlookers after a 3-year-old boy fell close to 20 feet in the zoo's gorilla habitat. Binti Jua, an 8 year old female gorilla, allowed her motherly instincts to kick in as she picked up the boy, cradled the young child, and carried him over to waiting rescuers.

Here is the video from 1996:

Binti Jua was hailed a hero by zookeepers and the public. Here is the original story as it aired in 1996

So, this raises the question, did the Cincinnati zookeepers do the right thing? We may never know. The story is just tragic all around.
