The Winnebago County Coroner just completed an autopsy on a woman who died in a house fire on Christmas Eve morning (12/24/23) and is now releasing more details about her identity.

According to a press release, the Rockford Fire Department responded to a house fire call in the 3600 block of Huffman Blvd. at 9:39 am on December 24 when smoke and flames were seen coming from the structure.

After extinguishing the fire, personnel from Rockford FD entered the residence and discovered a deceased adult female, according to the press release.

The woman was the sole occupant of the home and was identified as 61-year-old Debra Lamb of Rockford.

Winnebago County Coroner Matthew Lane reported in the press release that her preliminary cause of death is "still pending further studies and toxicology testing."

An investigation into the cause of the fire is still underway by the Rockford Fire Department.
