For some kids looking forward to school on Monday morning is more than just seeing their friends and learning new things. It means they will be getting a decent meal.

You can help fill backpacks to feed these hungry kids here in Rockford.

Backpack Buddies, according to the Rockford Register Star, is a program through "the Junior League of Rockford in partnership with the Rockford Public School District 205 and the Rock River Valley Pantry", that hands out bags packed full of food to kids in the Rockford Public School District every Friday so that they can have something to eat throughout the weekend.

The youth group, Greater Rockford Temple Youth Group (GRTY), from Temple Beth-El decided to partner with Backpack Buddies to help feed these children.

Now they need our helping to fill the backpacks.

This Friday, April 29th though May 6th," the youth group will be accepting donations of jars of peanut butter, and other nonperishable food items such as small, individual packets of cereal, rice, tuna, etc.."

They also will be collecting small and travel sized personal care items like: "toothbrushes, toothpaste and small toiletries like hotel-sized shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, body lotion, body wash, etc."

Monetary donations can be made as well with checks written out to Backpack Buddies.

Donations can be dropped off, starting this Friday, Temple Beth-El, 1203 Comanche Dr., Rockford, between 9 a.m. and noon and 2 to 4 p.m. For more information, call Temple Beth-El at 398-5020.
