The victim of a fatal Interstate 88 crash that occurred on Monday morning (10/20) in northern Illinois has been identified.

Fatal I-88 Crash Claims Life of 27-Year-Old

The Winnebago County Coroner's Office has identified the individual who was killed on I-88 as 27-year-old Araceli Zepeda of Rochelle, Illinois.

According to the press release, authorities from the Winnebago County Coroner's Office were called to a local Rockford hospital on Monday evening, October 20, after Zepeda died from injuries sustained in the morning collision.

Crash Occurred on Westbound Interstate 88

Preliminary reports indicate that the crash occurred around 9:22 a.m. when the vehicle Zepeda was riding in collided with another car before veering off the roadway and hitting the tree line.

The Illinois State Police and Rochelle Fire Department responded to the scene, where first responders found Zepeda unresponsive.

Life-Saving Efforts Unsuccessful

Emergency crews on the scene started treatment before OSF Life Flight was dispatched to airlift Zepeda to a local hospital for further care.

Despite intensive medical efforts, she was pronounced deceased at 7:59 pm, and although an autopsy has been completed, the official cause of death is pending further studies.

Investigation Continues

The Winnebago County Coroner's Office and Illinois State Police continue to investigate the crash to determine contributing factors.
