Downtown Rockford Bridge Closing Next Week

A busy downtown bridge will be closed long enough to get you used to a detour, right before reopening.

You will need to plan to use State Street or Jefferson Street bridges to venture in and out of downtown Rockford over the next few weeks. IDOT says repair work will be done on the Walnut Street train tracks, just east of Walnut bridge.

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation announces bridge repair work on the structure carrying eastbound Illinois 97 (Madison Street) over Walnut Street beginning April 24. The work will require closure of two lanes on eastbound Illinois 97.

Construction will last until August 4 (or earlier) and detours will be posted.
