I've seen several friends sharing forecasts on social media this week that claim Northern Illinois could be receiving several inches of snow in the days ahead. I'm no weather expert by any means, but I do know that the likelihood of us having to shovel snow in the next few days is slim to none...we're going to see a high in the low '70's today for heaven's sake!

As I stated, I am no weather expert, so let's turn to someone who is, WIFR's Chief Meteorologist Mark Henderson.  Mark's feathers always get ruffled when people begin sharing misleading or blown-out-of-proportion weather information, and I totally get why that is beyond frustrating.  On Tuesday he cleared the air about the snow forecasted for this week in the 815;

Several pictures began making the rounds on social media Tuesday, suggesting that multiple inches of snow could come late this weekend. We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to be EXTREMELY CAREFUL in what you believe on social media, and even more careful about what you share on social media.

To sum the remainder of this week's forecast up nicely for you let's say this; yes, it is going to get MUCH colder in the days ahead. Yes, it will be windy and snowflakes could be seen flying around, but inches of them accumulating is just not in the cards. The ground is still too warm,  and the "forecasts" that show major snow fall for this area are several days out, and a lot of things can change in that amount of time.

Stay weather aware the next few days, and start getting your winter wardrobe out now...just in case.
