Current Illinois Driver’s License & ID No Longer Valid in 2020
If you're planning on getting into airports, military bases, and using services at federal facilities you're going to need new identification.
The only way to avoid Illinois' new ID (called 'REAL ID') is if you're not planning on flying domestically in the United States, not planning on visiting a military base, or going to a secure federal facility. The only other option is possessing a valid U.S. passport or passport card.
According to Illinois Secretary of State, current Illinois driver's licenses and ID cards will expire October 1, 2020. If you do not get a REAL ID you may run into problems listed above. And knowing many of us will have to get this new identification, the cost is pretty important. Have no fear, the price won't increase. "Fees for a standard DL/ID and REAL ID DL/ID are the same."
Illinois's new 'REAL ID' is now available for all residents. Read more here.
