Things Illinois Parents Need

My daughters are 12 and nine years old now, but there are a few things I have made sure are well stocked in my home since they were very young:

  1. Goldfish crackers
  2. Fruit snacks
  3. Juice boxes
  4. Children's Tylenol and Ibuprofen

If there is one thing you can count on with school-age children, it is that they will get sick...several times during the school year.

Right now one of my daughters is battling a cold, so seeing a headline that says "Nearly 90,000 Bottles of Children's Ibuprofen Recalled Nationwide" had me majorly concerned.

Here's what Illinois parents need to know.

Nationwide Recall of Children's Ibuprofen

On March 2, 2026, pharmaceutical company Strides Pharma Inc. issued a voluntary recall of 89,592 bottles of Children’s Ibuprofen Oral Suspension (the 4-ounce kind, 100 mg per 5 mL) after receiving complaints of a “gel-like mass with black particles” inside the liquid.  (YIKES!)

The FDA report says the recalled products were bottled by Taro Pharmaceuticals and include lot numbers 7261973A and 7261974A, with expiration dates of January 31, 2027.

However, the one thing the FDA report doesn't say, is what has me the most concerned.

Where Was the Recalled Children's Ibuprofen Product Sold?

I am a frequent buyer of store brand medicines, and it appears that these recalled children's ibuprofen bottles are store brand products. The bottles were sold in Illinois, BUT the list of specific stores they were sold at has not yet been released.

An March 20 article from Fast Company says:

The FDA report states that a letter was sent out to the public, but there’s no press release and specific details about how individuals were notified are not included in the report.

Fast Company reached out to Strides Pharma and Taro Pharmaceuticals for more information and will update this story if we hear back.

If you are concerned you have a recalled bottle of children's ibuprofen at home, stop using it immediately. Motherhood already comes with enough surprises, we don’t need mystery particles in our medicine too. More specific recall information will hopefully be coming soon.
