Cashiers Won’t Be Necessary At The New Amazon Store in Chicago

Amazon is planning to open one of their new stores in Chicago and the unique thing about it is that cashiers won't be necessary to check out purchases.

I guess that's one way to cut down on salaries isn't it.

Amazon has branched out from on-line ordering to having actual storefronts. Their Seattle store did so well that the company announced it wants to open more. (WGN)

The next two will be here in Chicago and San Francisco.

Amazon Go is set up that customers enter the store "by scanning a smartphone app. Once inside the store, customers can grab what they need and just walk out. Overhead cameras keep track of what a customer buys and charges them after they leave."

Well that's simple enough and good reason to have no cashiers.

The only thing is it seems like this type of store lacks the personal feel. It's so stark. get in get out and never talk to anyone. Seems sort of impersonal.

Right now the plan for where Amazon Go will set up their store is in the heart of Chicago's downtown. If all goes according to plan it will be "near the Thompson Center in the Loop."

I can see the convenience of such a store, but it just seems so sterile to me. No personality. I guess that's just communicator inside me wanting to have that sort of connection with people.

However, for a busy city dweller popping in and out of a tore does have it's advantages too.

I wonder if one will eventually come to Rockford?
