Carrie Underwood Promises This Year’s CMA Awards Will Be ‘Heartfelt’
Carrie Underwood is excited to work alongside the iconic Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton for the 2019 CMA Awards — an event, she promises, will be "heartfelt."
"It’s definitely gonna be heartfelt," Underwood gushed at a recent No. 1 party for her song "Southbound," People reports.
The singer also reveled her delight over the award show's theme of celebrating country music's legendary women. "I love the fact that there’s a theme happening. I hope that’s kind of something that maybe we adopt for future CMAs," she says.
No Brad? No Problem! Carrie's Got This:
Underwood's usual co-host Brad Paisley will be sitting out in 2019 so Parton and McEntire can take the stage with the "Cry Pretty" star. A script has already been written, she reveals.
"We’ve already gotten into some of the script and some of the writings," she says. However, there is much more work that needs to be done before the show airs live on Nov. 13.
"I feel like there’s so much groundwork to be laid before we start getting into the details," Underwood adds. "I feel like Dolly and Reba are both so good at those one-liners that just kill. I can’t imagine there not being some of those in there."
The three had not been in direct communication at the time of her party, but Underwood assured the event would pull together more when they did. "I think it’ll really come down to the three of us getting in a room together and kind of reading through things and then being like, ‘Yeah, I wouldn’t say it like that,’" she said, "and ‘Let’s change it this way,’ and ‘What about this?"
Underwood is up for three awards at the 2019 CMA Awards, including the night's big grab: Album of the Year. She's the only female EOTY nominee in 2019.
The CMA Awards air at 8PM ET on Nov. 13 on ABC. The first of the performers have started to be announced.
