Busy Rockford Roads Closing for Critical Water Repairs
Rockford will see multiple road closures starting March 18 as crews conduct essential water infrastructure repairs across three major areas of the city.
Multiple Road Closures Announced Across Rockford
Rockford residents should prepare for several road closures that started on Wednesday, March 18, as the city's Water Division launches a series of infrastructure repairs.
The work will target manholes and water service lines in three separate areas, potentially disrupting traffic across key neighborhoods.
In the 1900 block of Harlem Boulevard, northbound traffic will be shut down at Douglas Street while crews repair manholes. Drivers traveling through the area will need to follow posted detours.
Guilford Road and 20th Street Impacted
Additional repairs will take place in the 2100 block of Guilford Road, where the street will be closed between Paris Avenue and North Rockford Avenue. Officials say only limited local access will be permitted during construction.

Meanwhile, on the city's south side, the 1400 block of 20th Street will see closures at 13th Avenue, restricting southbound traffic as manhole repairs are completed.
What Residents Should Expect
City officials say proper traffic controls and detours will be in place at all locations, but drivers are urged to use alternate routes and exercise extreme caution near work zones.

If water service interruptions are required, affected residents will receive notifications directly on their doors. Each project is expected to last between one and three business days, weather permitting.
The coordinated repairs highlight ongoing efforts to maintain Rockford's aging water infrastructure while minimizing long-term service disruptions.
