Brantley Gilbert’s Rockford Radio Interview Took a Wild Turn

We're getting ready to 'Live It Up for The Weekend' with Brantley Gilbert when he comes to Rockford for a big country music party on Friday night.

Brantley Gilbert Is Coming to Rockford

Before Brantley headed into town, he joined the Q Morning Crew with Johnny V. and Lil' Zim for a conversation covering everything from college football and hunting to fatherhood, and including one very cool live sound effect.

Gilbert told the Q Morning Crew he always enjoys coming to Illinois, joking that the state has become something of a second home because he hunts so much in the Land of Lincoln.

The interview took a wild turn when Johnny V. asked Brantley if he would do something wild for us if he happened to have a firearm nearby. He didn't hesitate. "If y'all are wanting to hear a gun go off this morning, you came to the right place."

Moments later, listeners heard Brantley fire off a couple of rounds. Johnny V. joked that the squirrel on his porch won't be bothering him anymore, while he responded that the target had been the point of the shot.

Life Off the Stage Looks Different for Brantley Gilbert

When he isn't performing, Brantley said much of his time is spent with his children. He reflected on how fatherhood wasn't necessarily part of the plan when he was younger.

"I just wanted to ride motorcycles and play music," Gilbert said, adding that he is incredibly thankful his life took a different direction.

Brantley Gilbert Reveals the Story Behind His Signature Voice

Asked if he was born with his recognizable raspy voice, he laughed and explained that he wanted to distinguish himself from other singers, saying his voice was much cleaner and more nasal when he first started making music.

He intentionally tried to add some rasp to give himself a different sound, and over time, it became a permanent part of the Brantley Gilbert sound.
