What Did The Note Say?

Printed on an A4 sheet of paper, the memo opens with a blunt statement: "WORK IS NOT MEANT TO BE FUN." It then goes on to instruct employees to avoid non-work discussions during their working hours and not to build friendships at work.

But it's the bizarre call to action that has really caught people's attention. The boss has urged employees to report colleagues who have "non-work discussions on company time." This move has left many questioning the company's culture and wondering whether there is a revolving door of staff.

To add insult to injury, the memo was signed off with a photo of a Minion from the Despicable Me franchise. This failed attempt at injecting humor has only added to the criticism being directed at the company.

What Did Commenters Say?

Within 24 hours, a post has generated over 24,000 comments, in which many individuals have deemed the boss as "toxic" and have criticized the company. One commenter expressed that the company must be a terrible place to work and questioned if there was a high turnover rate. Additionally, another individual claimed that their boss often initiated non-work related conversations more than anyone else in their office.

A manager chimed in, labeling the memo as "toxic." The manager mentioned that they were a leader in their workplace and regularly purchased snacks for their team in order to foster a safe and caring environment.

Some individuals made lighthearted comments, with one suggesting that the boss should be reported for discussing non-work related topics, while another humorously mused, “I have no clue what the f**k it is with bad bosses and Minions. They often come in a package!”.

While some may argue that work is not a place for making friends, the general consensus is that the boss has gone too far in attempting to control his employees' personal interactions. Work may not be meant to be fun, but it shouldn't be a miserable experience either.
