Tired of Shoveling Twice? Try This Genius Snow Removal Trick for Illinois Winters
You just finished shoveling your driveway and then a plow comes through and leaves a big snow mound at the end of it. Before you start screaming or begin your second shovel, try this simple trick when it starts snowing.
Snow Removal Tips for Illinois
As Illinois braces for its first major snowfall of the winter, there are a couple things you need to remember:
- It's easiest to buy a new snow shovel and ice melt BEFORE it starts snowing, NOT the day of the expected storm when everyone is running to the hardware store to do the same thing.
- Make sure your snow blower starts and is gassed up BEFORE the storm hits.
- Warm up your muscles before you go out to shovel, lift snow piles with your legs instead of your back, and don't try to shovel huge piles at once.
Each winter when it snows you see two types of homeowners...Those that go out multiple times to clear snow from their driveway while it's still snowing, and those that wait to shovel until the last snowflake has fallen.
I have been both of those homeowners in past winters, but no matter how aggressive my shoveling game is, there is one thing that kills me every winter...the second shovel.
How to Avoid the 'Second Shovel'
Just when you think you've conquered the snow, along comes the plow, leaving a heavy slushy mound at the end of your driveway which you now have to clear...again. This situation can be completely maddening, but it doesn't have to be if you try this simple trick.
Here's a helpful video from the City of Des Plaines, Illinois to help you better understand how this shoveling tip works...
I hope this tip works for you, because getting through that heavy, icy, slushy snow left by plows at the end of your driveway is never any fun. Good luck and be careful out there!
