There's a new list of the most hated cities in America and one of them is in Illinois. In fact, within the list of 44 states, the Midwest landed on it an astounding 11 times. The list is based on other recent lists including rudest cities, most underrated, and favorite cities.

Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin all made an appearance.

On the list, Chicago landed near the top. But why?

Why Do People Hate Chicago?

It's no secret that some Americans just don't seem to be a fan of Chicago. Now, I know what you're thinking. "Chicago is the Windy City, the home of deep-dish pizza and that big silver bean!" And you're right, there's a lot to love about this Midwestern metropolis. So why do some people just seem to hate it?

What is Chicago's Weather Like in the Winter?

Let's start with the weather. Sure, it's cold in the winter, but what do you expect from a city on the shores of Lake Michigan? And the wind from Lake Michigan can be intense, especially in the winter. The lake effect with winter weather can be downright brutal.

At the end of the day, I think it all comes down to personal preference. Some people just don't like big cities, and that's okay. But for those of us who love Chicago, the traffic, the weather, and the sports are all just small prices to pay for living in one of the greatest cities in America.

Sadly, crime is synonymous with Chicago much like the tall buildings and beautiful architecture.

Though crime is everywhere, it's definitely understandable that it makes Chicago less than desirable to some, although the population hasn't really dipped much over the years.

Let's be very serious, Chicago is ex-pen-sive. It is anything but cheap to eat in the Second City. The closer you get to the heart of Chicago the more you're going to pay for a meal or drinks.

This is an obvious pain in the side. Depending on where you are in the city, parking can be a problem. If you're not using a mobile app, like SpotHero or Park Whiz, you're likely paying a hefty fee. In some areas of the area, like near Wrigley Field, parking close to the park without needing to file for a loan might be impossible.

Is Chicago's Rush Hour Traffic Bad?

Any time you hear someone is headed to Chicago or you tell someone you're headed there it is inevitable to hear, "You better leave at (insert time here) so you'll miss the traffic," or "(insert event) is happening and it'll make traffic a nightmare." I don't have data to back this but traffic might be the #1 thing to make Chicago one of the most hated cities in America.

Chicago Sports

An honorable mention has to include sports. The Cubs, the White Sox, the Bears, the Blackhawks. Chicago is a sports town, and if you're not a fan of any of these teams, well, let's just say you might not fit in too well.
