AMC Theatres in Rockford is closed, but will it stay that way?

Personally, I don't think so, as a quick check of the AMC Theatre's website says that they "apologize for the inconvenience, but this theatre is temporarily closed. Please continue to check back here for updates."

AMC Rockford 16 has been closed since last week.

What Reddit Says About the AMC Rockford 16 Closure

According to Reddit:

Their internet went down during a storm last week. Is there internet went down there's something major that happened outside on a pole or something. They are probably waiting on the utility company to come and fix the fiber outside.

Anyone who hasn't been living under a rock should be aware that the theater industry hasn't exactly been thriving in the last five years. People spend the majority of their movie-watching these days at home, and it seems to be getting worse and worse.

Could AMC Rockford 16 Stay Closed for Good?

All that's to say, I am slightly concerned AMC might never reopen. I've seen this before with other places, restaurants, and stores, especially when the same brand already has one in the area.

For example, Applebee's had a fire issue on East State in Rockford, forcing them to close temporarily. The restaurant, by all accounts, struggled, and you know what? It never reopened. They also had another Applebee's down the road, much like AMC does.

Rockford Still Needs Its Movie Theater Experience

Will the same thing happen to AMC Showplace 16? I sure hope not. Let’s hope the lights come back on soon, because Rockford still needs a place to grab popcorn and escape reality for a while.
