As we celebrate Veteran's Day in the Rockford area, one local group wants to make sure local heroes are taken care of.

Beneath The Beard is a local organization that reaches out to veterans who are suffering from PTSD or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Here is what the description of the group says on their Facebook page:

"We are an organization for Veterans coping with the residual effects of Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other combat related mental health concerns. Our approach is to build a community of individuals seeking to help each other shoulder the burden that these problems can become for current and former service members. It is our core mantra that, "Pain shared is pain divided" and through our efforts we can work to confront and battle these issues."

Now, it is your turn to help out however you can. The group has created a Go Fund Me page and they are trying to raise $10,000. The reason being they need the startup funds to become a non profit organization.

Here is a video that features the start up group that was recorded back in March by WIFR-TV

It was 25 years ago that we went over to the Middle East and battled Iraq. That war, along with the Vietnam war and others have caused much harm to our proud men and women. They deserve to be treated with respect and given the care they deserve when they serve this great country. I have met many veterans and they have given us the freedom to vote, to be free and to live in harmony. The least we can do as Americans is to remember the ultimate sacrifice these brave men and women gave for their country.
