Rockford has topped another "Top 50" list and it's not crime-related, which is good. Apparently it's one of the coldest cities in the U.S., which is not good.

Is this list, found at, legitimate? Looks like it.

To determine America’s 50 coldest cities, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the minimum average temperature for each city’s coldest month between 1981 and 2010 from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Before revealing where Rockford landed on the list, here are some nearby cities that are all exceptionally cold.

  • Chicago (#49)
  • Madison (#24)
  • Milwaukee (#44)
  • Moline (#38)

So where does Rockford fall on this list? Almost right in the middle at #33.
