The YMCA of Rock River Valley has announced that they will be ending the Big Brothers Big Sisters program as of July 1, 2016 due to lack of funding.

WREX reports that the YMCA originally requested $95,000 from the United Way, but only received $22,000 of it due to the fact that the United Way has decided to make a bigger commitment to the Strong Neighborhoods Initiative in Rockford.

Mike Brown, CFRE, CEO and President, YMCA of Rock River Valley recently told WREX that the removal of this program is really more of an evolution, and that they will be still be helping kids enrolled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program through some of the Y's other available programs.

If you would like to donate funds to the YMCA of Rock River Valley to ensure no more programs will have to be cut, please visit the Y's website here for more information.
