We aren't in Kansas anymore and apparently neither is the yellow brick road that Dorothy & Toto traveled along in L. Frank Baum's classic story. What you may not know is Baum wrote Wizard of Oz while he lived in Humboldt Park. Well according to Book Club Chicago, nonprofit developer Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation began building an actual brick road outside of where Baum wrote his novel at 1667 N Humboldt Blvd. There will also be a 5 foot by 11 foot Oz themed mural on the corner.

There has been a huge push to rehab a lot of the housing in the Humboldt Park area. Projects like these will hopefully turn it into more of a family friendly attraction and give people a sense of pride in their neighborhood. Plus it could bring in tourists and fans of the children story to come see where he wrote it and the yellow brick road itself. Sometimes small efforts result in big changes.
