Rockford Police are investigating an incident that left one woman injured when she was shot in the leg while walking on the sidewalk.

According to the press release from Rockford PD, a 23-year-old woman told police that she was walking down the 1500 block of 17th Avenue when she heard a pop and then felt a sharp pain in her leg.

Rockford Police say the woman walked into a local hospital for her injury but "was not forthcoming with any further information."

The woman was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Rockford Police.

No further details about the incident and no suspect was in custody at the time this article was published.
